2011 EARTH DAY: Let's save WATER & LIGHT/electricity

Just brought home the Jakarta Post yesterday's edition, April 28, 2011 from SMPK 7 PENABUR Jakarta library. Today & tomorrow--April 29-30--are the Earth Day(s), it reads! The Jakarta Globe paper, especially its April 2011 Student Globe supplement also invites youngsters to help to care for their mother earth/nature, especially in the coming threat of the global warming.

Well, then, let's celebrate the Earth Day with the world. Here are at least 3 tips you and I could do as students/teachers to conserve the energy and natural resources:

1. LIMITED LIGHT USE
Look inside & around your home. Switch off 2 lamps. More lamps to turn off are a plus, just make sure your home people do not trip/slip in the darkness! Don't worry, your cat or dog is safe without light, isn't it?
:p

2. SAVE ENERGY of the AIR-CONDITIONERs.
Set your air-cons remote control to moderate temperature, say 23-25 Celcius. I know Jakarta is HOT, but imagine how much energy millions out of 8 million Jakartans can save! Our current Indonesian president Mr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for instance, has even suggested us to set the Air-con temperature at 25degrees Celcius/ a mild Bogor city temperature.

3. USE WATER PROPERLY and ADEQUATELY.
An ESL Cambridge textbook reads taking a bath in a bathtub is much efficient/eco-friendly than showering! Wow.
Of course, if your home has water tank/storage, why don't you save much water by taking a quick bath. To add, apply shampoo & soap to your hair & body altogether, then shower them at once.

Tips: for toilet use, flush only 2 buckets of water for a pee. It saves up to a gallon of water (19 litres) if you've got only 4-5 people at home, and more than 7,000 litres of water annually!

Well, see if such small. tips can work out a great amount of energy and water saving in your small community. Can you imagine how many teenagers at your age are able to set examples to influence your family and neighbourhood to do likewise?

Happy Earth Day, guys! Watch your dad/mom's water & electricity bills drop next month. Cheers! :p
